Astounding, baffling, beautiful, haunting, wonderful Peru. Another trip fell through, and Bub had a dream to see the Amazon. Brazil seemed politically unstable, and my old friend Ryan was living in the Andes with his wife and daughter. Ryan has vast climbing experience, a deep education and travel history in Latin America, and he’s fun to spend time with. So I called up my old friend and said “hey are you free? If not, what should we do in Peru?” And then it happened, we were flying high up into the Andes for a few days. We’d spend a couple days in Cusco (the Incan capital), meet Ryan down in Pisac, and then fly down to the lowlands on the east side of the country that are the headwaters of the Amazon.
